
Getting Your Low-E Glass Preheating Right (Especially the Wide Stuff)
If you’re working with Low-E glass sheets wider than 3 meters, you know the struggle. You need the heat to be perfectly even across the whole thing. But here’s the problem: standard, off-the-shelf lamps almost always leave cold spots. That’s where we come in. Instead of trying to make a “one size fits all” product work, we build custom infrared (IR) heating units designed specifically for the width of your baking tunnel. The struggle with the 3-meter mark When you scale a heating element up to 3 meters or more, physics starts to fight you. You deal with voltage drops and heat density issues. If the wattage per centimeter isn’t exactly the same from one end to the other, your Low-E coating won’t bond. That means scrap. And nobody likes throwing away expensive glass. To stop that from happening, we use precision-wound filaments and high-grade quartz tubing. It keeps the thermal output steady, no matter where you are on the span. It’s more than just a long lightbulb These aren’t just oversized bulbs. They’re full-on heating systems. One big headache with ultra-long lamps is “sagging.” When they get hot, they want to bend under their own weight, which usually leads to a snap. We use reinforced quartz to keep them straight and sturdy. Depending on how deep you need that heat to soak into the glass, you can go with shortwave or medium-wave emitters. Plus, we use heavy-duty connectors. These things live in high-temp ovens, so they need to be tough enough to take a beating. The trade-off Going with a single 3-meter continuous unit is great because it kills those annoying gaps you get with modular arrays. You get a flat, consistent temperature map. Simple. But, there is a catch. If one section of a 3-meter tube burns out, you can’t just swap a tiny piece. You have to replace the whole span. Also, you’ve got to be obsessive about your mounting brackets. If they aren’t perfectly aligned, the tube will feel the stress as it expands with the heat. And a stressed tube is a broken tube.
