
Warmth Without the Blinding Glare
Ever stepped into a bathroom and felt like you were staring directly into the sun? Most bathroom heaters use short-wave infrared to get you warm fast, but they come with a downside: that intense, blinding white light. It’s harsh. And for babies or toddlers whose eyes are still developing, it can actually be quite stressful. We figured there had to be a better way.
How we fix the glare
The trick is in the glass. We use a special quartz coating that acts like a filter. Think of it as a gatekeeper. It blocks those piercing blue and white light peaks but lets the actual heat—the infrared radiation—slide right through. You still feel that cozy warmth on your skin, but your eyes aren’t fighting a spotlight. It’s much softer.
Keeping it hot (and safe)
Inside the tube, we use halogen gas. This isn’t just for show; it stops the tungsten from gunking up the walls of the tube. If the glass gets cloudy, the heat doesn’t spread right, and the whole thing becomes inefficient. Now, depending on the size of the fixture, these usually run anywhere from 250W to 600W. Higher wattage means you’re warm the second you flip the switch. But there’s a catch. More power means more heat hitting the plastic housing. That’s why we make sure the heat sink can handle the load—nobody wants a warped chassis.
A few tips for installation
Getting these wired up is pretty simple. We stick with R7s or similar snap-in connectors because they’re secure. You don’t want loose contacts; that leads to arcing, and that’s how you burn out a bulb way too early. One last thing. Even though the light is dimmed and safer for your eyes, the heat is still powerful. Don’t mount these too low. Give yourself at least 1.5 meters of space so you don’t accidentally singe your skin.
